He works with young people and adults within mental health recovery pathways and has clinical experience supporting individuals with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and ADD. Paul delivers both individual and group‑based music therapy interventions across mental health, recovery and rehabilitation, educational and community environments. His practice is grounded in a strong understanding of music therapy principles, theories and evidence‑based approaches.

Paul currently works within a trauma‑informed school for pupils aged 11–18, providing specialist support for neurodivergent students with diagnoses including autism, ADHD, trauma and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. He also provides music therapy within a SEN complex‑needs and learning‑disability school, supporting young people with autism and associated learning disabilities.

Paul is also currently collaborating with Rethink Mental Illness and Derbyshire Healthcare NHS on a community music group in Chesterfield that supports adults’ mental health and wellbeing.

Paul completed his Master of Music Therapy (MMT) at the University of the West of England (UWE) in 2022 and qualified as a Neurologic Music Therapist in 2023 through The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy.

His previous experience includes working as a Neurologic Music Therapist within a recovery and rehabilitation centre for adults and young people, a PMLD school, and across social‑prescribing community projects supporting mental health, social development and wellbeing.

Paul’s work focuses on supporting sensory needs, behavioural and emotional regulation, and trauma‑informed practice within a music therapy framework. His approach includes improvisational music‑making, collaborative songwriting, singing, listening and creative arts‑based methods to develop communication and social skills, all structured around clear and achievable therapeutic goals.

Paul Tatler Music Therapy Approach

Paul Tatler Music Therapy works within a psychodynamic framework, offering a holistic, person‑centred and music‑centred therapeutic approach. The service supports individuals to engage in expressive and musical communication through a wide range of instruments and creative processes. Therapeutic sessions may include improvisational music‑making, collaborative songwriting and vocal work. These methods are used intentionally to facilitate emotional expression, relational attunement and the development of communicative and regulatory capacities.
